The Strepy-Thieu Funicular Lift

Put into service at the dawn of the 2000s, the funicular lift of Strépy-Thieu is one of the most beautiful technological feats of modern Belgian civil engineering. Located at the heart of the European river network, this structure of titanic dimensions allows the new generations of inland waterway vessels to cross a 73.15 metre difference in height, making it the largest boat lift in Europe. Follow the history of Belgian inland navigation from 1830 to the present day and discover the rich river heritage that surrounds us! Shipbuilding, navigation techniques, but also works from here and around the world, not forgetting the many advantages of the waterways for the future, as well as an explanatory film on the construction and operation of the funicular lift! Keramis is a museum, art and creative space dedicated to ceramics, built on the site of the former Boch earthenware factory in La Louvière (Belgium). Its bold, contemporary architecture encompasses a listed old building containing three giant bottle kilns, the last examples of their kind in Belgium. Keramis is the first Belgian art center dedicated to contemporary ceramics.

At 40 minutes' drive from Brussels, the Centre for engravings is a polyvalent meeting, creation and research place dedicated to the contemporary prints. Its amazing collection of 12.500 art works made by 1.640 Belgian and foreign artists shows the wealth of modern and contemporary art from the second half of the 20th century onwards.
